The cottonmouth or water moccasin is a less deadly snake that has earned a reputation as being aggressive. These snakes will bite if provoked, but are more likely to flee than bite. Their venom is haemotoxic and their bites cause gangrene. These snakes live in the wetlands, primarily in the Southeast.
